The Foo Fighters 30th anniversary may be getting a proper celebration soon.
Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters have launched a new Substack page titled Foo Fighters Field Notes, featuring the first post, which includes archival photos and videos related to their self-titled debut album, now 30 years old.
Foo Fighters 30th Anniversary: Dave Grohl Launches
Fans may recall that a 25th anniversary festival was planned for the Fourth of July in 2020, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The band announced the Substack via a Facebook post, sharing a clip from the “I’ll Stick Around” video along with the hashtag #FF30. Their cover photo was also updated to a black banner that reads “Est. 1995.”
Commenters noted that the “I’ll Stick Around” video features William Goldsmith on drums—Grohl’s original live drummer after recording all the instruments himself on the Foo Fighters album. This has led to speculation that Goldsmith may return following the May 2025 departure of drummer Josh Freese.
However, a Goldsmith reunion seems unlikely due to the long-standing tension between him and Grohl. Goldsmith exited the band in the late ’90s after learning that Grohl had rerecorded his drum parts on the band’s sophomore album, The Colour and the Shape, without his knowledge.
Aside from any upcoming anniversary event, Foo Fighters’ 2025 plans include an Asia tour in October and a headlining appearance at Mexico’s Corona Capital festival in November. These will be their first scheduled live dates since Grohl’s 2024 infidelity scandal.
