The long-rumored Smiths reunion remains off the table—at least for Johnny Marr.

The iconic British band disbanded in 1987, and ever since, Marr and fellow bandmate Morrissey have remained publicly estranged. Despite the tension, offers for a reunion continue to surface. One such proposal, according to Marr, involved an “eye-watering amount of money.”

“We got made an offer recently, in fact,” Marr shared on the Stick to Football podcast. “I said no.”

He added, “The vibe’s not right. Bad vibe.”

Morrissey, for his part, claimed in 2024 that he had accepted a lucrative deal to reunite The Smiths, but that Marr “ignored” the offer. He also alleged that Marr had obtained legal rights to the band name, allowing him to tour under the Smiths moniker with a different singer.

Marr later denied those claims, stating that he declined the proposal outright and emphasized, “there are no such plans” to tour as The Smiths with anyone other than Morrissey.
