The Power Goth Recordings collective has quickly become a cornerstone of Denver’s independent music community. Founded in the summer of 2022, the label was built on a community-first approach that celebrates collaboration, authenticity, and the spirit of DIY culture.

The Origins of Power Goth Recordings

Created by Denver musicians Lauren Beecher (vocalist for Broken Record and drummer for Flesh Tape), Corey Fruin (Beecher’s husband, member of Broken Record and Replica City), and collaborator Jay Papandreas, the label began as an outlet for their own projects.

Their formation was encouraged by Chuck Coffey of the respected Snappy Little Numbers label, whose mentorship helped shape Power Goth’s vision. The label’s debut release, Broken Records’ “Weightless” EP, immediately reflected its hands-on, artist-run philosophy and DIY spirit.

A Philosophy Rooted in the Indie Ethos

At its core, Power Goth Recordings draws inspiration from legendary independent labels like Dischord Records, Revelation Records, and Quote Unquote Records. Instead of chasing mainstream success, the founders focused on community impact—supporting local shows, encouraging collaboration, and maintaining a “basement recording” ethos that values authenticity over polish.

True to its values, the label often reinvests its proceeds back into the community or charitable causes, strengthening its ties to Denver’s DIY scene and the artists who sustain it.

The Sound of Power Goth Recordings

The label’s roster reflects the founders’ broad musical influences and interconnected projects. Acts such as Broken Record, Replica City, and Flesh Tape blend styles ranging from dark post-punk and shoegaze-influenced alt-rock to post-hardcore and “stadium emo.”

This genre diversity has helped establish Power Goth as a haven for artists who push creative boundaries while staying true to the underground roots of Denver’s music scene.

Recent Highlights and Ongoing Impact

In June 2025, Flesh Tape released their three-track Gravesite EP under the Power Goth banner, further expanding the label’s sonic range. The same year, the label gained wider recognition when a Broken Record track was featured on Indie 102.3’s local playlist on November 8, 2025—a testament to its growing influence beyond Denver’s DIY circles.

Today, Power Goth Recordings stands as a respected voice in the city’s independent ecosystem, defined not by commercial ambition but by its unwavering commitment to artistry, collaboration, and community.

Why Power Goth Recordings Matters

Denver’s music culture thrives on experimentation, and Power Goth embodies that spirit. By prioritizing connection over profit, the label continues to prove that independent artistry and community values can coexist.

For fans and musicians alike, Power Goth Recordings is more than a label—it’s a reminder that Denver’s creative heart beats strongest in its basements, clubs, and local stages.
