Metallica’s Denver blood drive efforts made history this week, setting a new record for the largest blood drive in the Denver Red Cross’s history.

Held on Monday and Tuesday ahead of Metallica’s two shows at Empower Field at Mile High, the two-day event marked the final stop of the band’s nationwide blood donation campaign, launched in support of their ongoing M72 tour.

Fans who participated in the drive were given a limited-edition Metallica T-shirt as a thank-you.

Earlier this month, Metallica confirmed that the campaign had surpassed 1,000 total donations nationwide. The initiative was created to address the critical need for blood during the spring and summer months.

“Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, and the need for blood donations increases during the spring and summer months,” Metallica shared when launching the campaign. “By participating in these drives, the Metallica Family will help trauma victims, those facing cancer, new mothers, people living with sickle cell disease, and so many more.”

The Denver shows—scheduled for Friday and Sunday—currently stand as Metallica’s final U.S. dates on the M72 tour.
