Appaloosa Grill Denver, affectionately known as “The Horse,” remains a vibrant hub for live music and a long-standing staple on the 16th Street Mall. Known for its commitment to showcasing local and national talent, the musician-operated grill has been a cornerstone of the downtown Denver music scene since its inception in 2001.

Every night of the week, the Appaloosa Grill features live music starting at 9 p.m., offering a diverse range of genres for patrons. This dedication to live performance has solidified its reputation as a go-to venue for both diners and music enthusiasts amidst the evolving landscape of the 16th Street Mall.

Originally established by a group that included former Colorado Governor and U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper, the restaurant was later purchased in 2005 by musicians Johnny James Qualley and Adam Hill of the band Oakhurst. Their leadership has ensured that music remains a central part of the Appaloosa Grill’s identity.

In addition to its musical offerings, “The Horse” is known for its American-style cuisine, with a focus on locally sourced and all-natural ingredients. The venue also features a historic bar dating back to the 1850s, adding to its unique atmosphere. Despite the challenges faced by many businesses on the 16th Street Mall, including recent renovations, the Appaloosa Grill has endured, continuing to provide a consistent and cherished space for live music in the heart of Denver.
